Paul Thorn Seizes Highest Billboard Chart Debut Ever

Paul Thorn has achieved his highest position ever on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart with his new album, 'Pimps and Preachers,' debuting at #83. Thorn's CD sales would have topped the Heatseekers chart on Billboard this week, but he blew past the eligibility requirement for that honor by landing immediately in the Top 100 for the first time. The album, out now on Perpetual Obscurity Records, also moved into the top 10 on the Americana radio charts after debuting as the #1 most added record last week.

He’ll be on the road for most of the Summer and Fall, full list of tour dates here:

The album has been pulling in raves, here’s what we’ve been hearing:

“’I Don’t Like Half the Folks I Love’ - Judging from this standout confessional tune from ‘Pimps and Preachers,’ Thorn’s family reunions must be a riot.”
-USA Today

“His gruff voice has gotten him compared to Springsteen and Tom Waits. But when he sits down to write, he’s more like John Prine, authoring succinct, epigrammatic verse that unsentimentally assays life’s common troubles.”
-Newark Star Ledger

“The sacred and the profane pair nicely here, driven by Thorn’s dusky voice and subtle, often self-deprecating wit.”
-Paste

“A great rock & roll album that -- for all its good-time feel -- accomplishes the profound: it exposes the fictions, both spiritual and carnal, that promise us heaven, while holding us bound and twitching, just above our particular hells.”
-All Music Guide

“A Collection of vivid songs that draw on the opposite impulses Thorn from his father and an uncle - preacher and pimp, respectively- and colored with his own wry outlook.”
-M Music & Musicians

“Delivering swampy, rollicking Southern tall tales and character sketches in a drawl like John Hiatt run through a rock tumbler.”
-Nashville Scene
