TuneCore is setting its sights on the world of film. After becoming the market leader by revolutionizing the digital distribution of music to online stores like iTunes and AmazonMP3 for a simple up front fee while taking none of the money from the sale of the music, TuneCore now becomes the first film distribution company to enable production companies, film creators, record labels, and bands the ability to distribute and sell their movies and live concerts through outlets like iTunes for no back-end distribution fee.
This new service, which includes both the distribution and the digital conversion of films and concerts, will extend the same groundbreaking flat-rate model that has allowed tens of thousands of musicians to distribute their music while retaining all of their profits and rights. Though the programming is currently in beta form, it will launch in earnest November 18. At that time, filmmakers, record labels and bands can deliver their work and enjoy the unprecedented level of independence and access TuneCore has granted so many musicians.
The fee structure depends on a film or live concert's duration; for example delivery to iTunes of a 60 minute film costs $550, a 90 minute film $770, with breaks for volume customers.
In its current beta phase, TuneCore is delivering two films written by Obie Award winner Israel Horovitz, "3 Weeks After Paradise" as well as "Security." In addition, Horovitz will be working his starting his own film distribution company utilizing TuneCore; he will identify films that he deems are of artistic excellence.
Other films include the multi-platinum selling "The Pimp Chronicles Part 1" and "American Hustle" by comedian Katt Williiams ("First Sunday," "My Wife and Kids"), the inspiring documentary "Ballou," about the unlikely success of an inner-city marching band, and the moving drama "Little Chenier: A Cajun Story." Musicians will also be able to utilize the service to sell live concert videos along with their albums.
TuneCore.com, the industry leader in digital distribution, has changed the 100-year-old rules and model of the music and now the film businesses. It is a low, flat fee service that delivers anyone's music and videos to iTunes, eMusic, Amazonmp3 and many other major download sites while taking no rights and no revenue from the sale of the music. Artists are building careers, selling significant volumes of music and generating revenue while keeping their rights utilizing the new model created by TuneCore. TuneCore has delivered the music of Keith Richards, Bjork, Jay-Z, Public Enemy, Nine Inch Nails, and thousands of others to the digital download stores.
