CMJ

I had a pretty epic CMJ last week and was still recovering from it a few days later.  I saw 30 bands (of course I counted!), some of which were amazing and I came away from the fest with some new favorites.

Ty Segall.  Brilliant grungy punk – never seen Ty Segall live before and glad i did. twice.

Listen to “Caesar” from their latest disc ‘Melted’:

Suuns.  Admittedly never heard of Suuns (formerly called Zeroes) before CMJ started but really wanted to see their set and braved a packed crowd at Pianos to do so.  I’ll let the NY Times explain this one.

Lia Ices.  Gorgeous voice washed in chorus with excellent band behind her to showcase a set of really smart songs.  A nice surprise.

Reggie Watts.  I’ve known of Reggie for a few years but hadn’t seen his show this up close and personal before.  It was simply amazing and wickedly funny.

I also attended an official CMJ panel featuring TuneCore CEO Jeff Price and George Howard, which was a fascinating discussion on artist rights, royalties, publishing – how an artist can enable and control their career. Read more here.

TuneCore Loves Rock & Roll, Joan Jett, Shore Fire

We were immensely proud to get our copy of the TuneCore Sales Certification Award for Joan Jett selling over 100,000 songs via TuneCore. Click here to find out more about the awards. Here’s our own Chris Taillie and Nancie Martin, who worked on the campaign for Joan, with the newly minted award. If you come to visit, look on your left as you come through the front door and you’ll find it hanging prominently. Thank you, TuneCore!

E-commerce & the Economy – Micropayments edition

Fascinating blog posting over at the Reflexions Insider on the Rebirth of Micropayments and how the music industry is leading the way forward in this e-commerce movement. Dan Leslie argues that small payments online of less than a dollar will become more routine, largely because of places like the iTunes Store. He also gives a shout-out to our friends at TuneCore.com, who are at the forefront of the digital music universe.
