I’ve always been a fan of female singer-songwriters (I had a HUGE high school obsession with Michelle Branch), so it was a treat to attend the sold-out Holly Conlan & Sara Bareilles show last night at Webster Hall.
Of course I am very familiar with Holly’s tunes (‘Fascinator’ is a suberb album), but being able to hear her live and in-person was an experience unlike any other! I heard several folks in the audience around me mumble phrases like “She has a great voice” & “I love her sound.” After Holly charmed the crowd, she received a wall of applause from the audience and gracefully made room for the following act, Indie rocker Cary Brothers.
Sara came on afterwords and in a funky surprise to the audience, invited Holly back on-stage for a brilliant cover of Cee-Lo Green’s current hit “F*ck You“! It was a performance to remember. Actually, the entire show was. Nothing like a night of heartfelt piano-based pop to soothe one’s soul.
Here I am with the lovely Holly Conlan and Shore Fire’s Elizabeth Lutz and Rebecca Shapiro:
